Starcloud, formerly Lumen Orbit, is a pioneering company redefining AI computing by taking it beyond Earth’s atmosphere. The company is developing a network of megawatt-scale data centers in space, leveraging abundant solar energy, passive cooling from the vacuum of space, and scalable infrastructure to power the next generation of AI and machine learning models. In partnership with NVIDIA’s Inception Program, Starcloud is preparing to launch its first demonstrator satellite in July 2025. This mission will mark a significant leap forward for AI computing in space, featuring the most powerful GPUs ever operated in orbit—100 times more powerful than any previous space-based system.
Starcloud has raised an additional $10 million in funding, bringing its total seed investment to $21 million. The company is backed by investors including NFX, Y Combinator, FUSE, Soma Capital, and scout funds from Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia.
Starcloud, Redmond, Washington, United States, was founded in January 2024 by Adi Oltean, Ezra Feilden, and Philip Johnston. Starcloud operates at the intersection of AI, cloud computing, and space infrastructure, serving industries such as high-performance computing (HPC), aerospace and defense, scientific research, and next-generation AI workloads. With its innovative approach, the company is set to revolutionize AI training and large-scale computing capabilities, leveraging space’s unparalleled energy resources and cooling efficiencies.
