Speak is a revolutionary mobile app designed to bridge the gap between textbook learning and conversational fluency using cutting-edge artificial intelligence. At its core, Speak leverages AI to simulate engaging, interactive conversations that mimic real-life scenarios. Unlike conventional language apps that rely heavily on pre-recorded audio or written exercises, Speak creates a dynamic, adaptive learning environment where users can practice speaking naturally and receive instant feedback on pronunciation, grammar, and fluency.

Speak has raised $78 million in a Series C round, increasing the company’s valuation to $1 billion. The funding round was led by Accel, with previous backers OpenAI, Khosla Ventures, and Y Combinator also participating.

Speak, San Francisco, California, United States, was founded in 2016 by Connor Zwick and Andrew Hsu. “We are at an inflection point of a transformative shift in learning with AI,” said co-founder and CEO Connor Zwick. “English isn’t just a language; it’s a key that unlocks life-changing opportunities from higher education and global careers to meaningful cross-cultural connections. We are energized by the opportunity to make personalized, AI-powered language tutoring accessible to millions of people worldwide.”
